This place is great. Music was soft enough to where you can hear it, but not too loud. The food was AMAZING! Because I'm from the east coast, I eat quite a bit of seafood and these guys totally knocked my socks off. I had the crab appetizer, and the salmon salad. The herb vinaigrette dressing was PERFECT. It wasn't so strong that it over powered the taste of the salad. The Salmon was very tender. I hope I can come back here again!

Ate with a group. Service was sub-par, portions were ok (po'boy was weak...barely a layer of shrimp). But what we did get was delicious. Would like to give this a 3.5 stars but cant...and it wasn't 4. Seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly!

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! Went there for a sports event and the Bartender literally asked us if we were really going to stay the whole event. He was on his phone the whole time! Will never go back.

1/2 price oysters in the afternoon. They are delish! That is for raw only, but this time of year they are the best.

Although I know Wintzell's is supposed to be a Mobile Bay institution, I found our experience to be disappointing. We stumbled upon this location while looking for a quick bite before driving back to Atlanta, and I had a feeling that it wouldn't be that good. Sadly, I was right. Considering the place was dead (we were literally the only table), the following shouldn't have happened: 1. Messed up our drink order and didn't give us root beer, and when it was corrected, the soda/mix ratio was off. 2. The crab cakes had really old crab meat. Like it smelled and tasted really fishy, and gross. My fiance ended up eating the rest of the sandwich, sans crab cake. Also, the fried green tomato was too thick for the sandwich. 3. Extremely slow service, mostly from the kitchen. Our server was great! 4. No hush puppies! On the bright side: 1. My bacon-wrapped shrimp were really good! 2. Our server was great, and offered to fix the above mentioned crab cake sandwich disaster. 3. They offered to make us something else, but we didn't take advantage of it because we had to drive back to Atlanta that night. I'm up for trying it again, possibly at a different location. I genuinely think this was a fluke.

Ate here two weeks ago and our server Tristan was awesome. Was going to go back this week and I have found out that they have closed this location down for good :(

Food is great! They have excellent raw oysters and my favorite entree is their bacon wrapped shrimp! Service is pretty good. They are usually not too crowded which is a plus! We come here often and will continue!

Ok for some things. I haven't found them yet. I've had the wings which were not up to my standards. I prefer Tacky Jacks and just about anywhere else. Happy hour $3.00 well drinks seemed weak to me. Catfish was just ok. Seemed to be pre-battered and frozen, but don't know that. Small bowl of cheese grits were good, but could have given me more than that small amount. 3 overcooked hushpuppies. Salad was fluffy, so there wasn't much to it. Wife had dozen raw oysters, and said they were good. Fried pickles were good, just too salty for me. Service was very good.

I wanted to go here after seeing this place on Man vs. Food. Very interesting interior with sayings, signs, and other cool stuff plastering the walls. Took over 5 mins for someone to even acknowledge my presence, but then my waitress came and took my order as soon as I was seated. I ordered the oyster sampler which was about 16 oysters prepared 4 different ways. It came out in a flash and I devoured them pretty rapidly. I didn't much care for the bienville oysters(oysters with crab meat, shrimp, and parmesan sauce) and the Rockefeller oysters were just okay. They really needed some cheese, very dry. On the other hand, I thought the Monterrey (cheese, bacon, and jalapeño) oysters were delicious and the chargrilled oysters with the Parmesan were my favorite out of all of them. I even had a few bonus oysters on the bottom of the oysters on my tray. Overall, good food, great service, but couldn't give 5 stars because I was a little irritated that no one even said boo to me while I stood there waiting to be seated. The bartender definitely saw me and should have said something. Anyhow...check it out. I'd go back to Wintzell's oyster house again.

$6 raw dozens and $1 domestic beers all day, everyday (Spanish Fort location only). What more do you want from an oyster house? Gumbo, buffalo shrimp and wings are good too. Be sure to sit at the oyster bar for a freshly shucked dozen, or three. If you order from patio or dining room, the wait staff has a supply of shucked reserves in the refrigerator. I don't need to tell you that you want freshly shucked oysters straight out of ice. UPDATE: They blame it on demand and an improving economy but the oysters are a whopping $15 a dozen (more than a touristy oyster bar in the French Quarter) and the domestic beers are up to $1.50 a piece. Sorry for disappointment :-(

The boys enjoyed their food. Mine was average. What was terrible was the service. The manager tried to correct it, and it got worse. The manager finally relieved the server, gave us a new one, and then comped our food. The manager was great, the first server needs to find a new line of work. They get three stars due to the effort of the manager and second server, otherwise it would be a one star rating based on the first server.

Good southern seafood. I'm sure it's seasonal and varies but had the largest oysters here in awhile. Had a dozen raw and the grilled oyster platter. Also had the softshell crab poboy which was great. Nice and clean inside.

So terrible, we are so dissapointed. I took my friend from out of town who hasww visited and eaten here for over 30 years. Terrible service, roaches visable crawling around. Food greasy and tasted terrible. I take friends here when they visit from out of town, never again!

Fantastic food and great service. Since moving away from the Gulf Coast, we've really missed the great seafood. Wintzell's really hit the spot.

Just not my cup of tea. I ordered the crabcake blt (minus the bacon), and it was too much grease. I should have tried one of their fish dinners...
